Celebrating 10 years of Laing O'Rourke

Following the acquisition of Laing Construction in October 2001, in one of the industry's most extraordinary moves, we review the first 10 years of Laing O'Rourke.

Targeted growth and expansion

Laing O’Rourke’s 10-year journey has been one of continuous growth – into new sectors and global territories, and in our increasing ability to offer value across the lifecycle of a project.

From securing several high-value Middle East projects in 2002, through to success in Australia, Hong Kong and Canada, Laing O’Rourke is now an established engineering enterprise.

The development of our specialist businesses, alongside our infrastructure and construction expertise, differentiates Laing O’Rourke on the basis of our technical skills and capabilities – offering clients total solutions.

The future will see Laing O’Rourke continue to pursue excellence in diverse sectors, able to respond and adapt to the changing demands of a 21st century society.

Nurturing talent

From the very beginning, Laing O’Rourke has sought to attract and develop world-class talent, while addressing the industry’s long-term skills requirements by encouraging more young people to consider careers in construction and engineering.

As a direct employer, we invest heavily in our people to ensure they have the skills to work safely and responsibly, and get the most out of their careers.

Education is fundamental to the business, from inspiring young people through extensive academic networks, to supporting gifted employees through fast-track development programmes, designed in consultation with some of the world’s most prestigious universities.

Safety and sustainable development

As an engineering enterprise, Laing O’Rourke is actively challenging and changing the industry through the adoption of safer and more sustainable solutions.

Driving smarter construction, our Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) approach cuts waste out of the construction process while delivering better-performing, more energy-efficient structures.

For Laing O’Rourke, safety is the ultimate sustainability issue – and a core business value. From the strategic decisions we make as a business to delivery on the ground, safety underpins everything we do.

Engineering excellence

Laing O’Rourke has a proud heritage delivering projects that tackle some of the world’s most complex construction challenges.

Through broad-based, integrated project-delivery skills we bring innovative solutions, engineering projects to perform safely and sustainably.

Committed to expanding our capabilities through research and collaboration, Laing O’Rourke partners with world-leading engineering innovators. The Engineering Excellence Group (EnEx.G) is our in-house specialist consultancy, seeking to devise engineering strategies that will ultimately deliver industry-wide benefits.
